The role of the government should include to always be searching for ways to increase voter registration and participation, and eliminate barriers to participation in the electoral system. Government at all levels should be prohibited to actively search for ways to prevent or discourage voting.

opinion: the electoral college system is undemocratic
The current electoral college system is inherently undemocratic. From a both-sides point of view, the vote of a Texan Democrat and a Californian Republican should have the same influence as anyone else's in a presidential election, regardless of their state's political leaning.
